Day 43 Tanami Tootle 54km

A shopping trip to the big supermarket in Fitzroy Crossing township on the opposite side of the river to the Lodge. A big supermarket.

The Nookanbah (where the aborigines protested mining exploration on their country without consent) community bus came in while we were there bringing the community in for shopping and a chat.

Don got a puncture 10km ex Fitzroy Crossing when he left the road to change his fat tyre back to a road tyre. It took him nearly 2 hours for him to swap back to a 40mm Marathon touring tyre. Then he got a puncture in his other tyre while getting back on the road. Those caltrope burrs are serious across all the cattle country up here. All up lost more than 2h through swapping tyres and repacking gear.

Meanwhile i was 40km further down the road waiting for him. Got so bored I used Euclid to key out a tree – seemingly got it right as a narrow leaved bloodwood! A couple of cars stopped to see if I was alright and told me they had seen Don working on his tyres.

Don caught up about 4pm so we rolled a kilometre down the road to a spoon drain and camped here for the night.

Waiting for Don to fix tyres 50km from Fitzroy Crossing
