Day 19 Tanami Tootle Alice Springs onto the Tanami Road, 64km

Adelaide ut onto the Tanami Road!

Farewelled Christine who has headed off to Adelaide which is fair enough. She is afraid we’ll smell too bad after nine days without a shower. Actually she was being very considerate and didn’t want problems with her wheel (subsequently told it couldn’t be repaired when back in Perth) or a delay in getting a new one sent from Adelaide) to hold us up. Very gallant and a great disappointment. But it did mean Don and I could ‘go feral’ out on the Tanami without a lady to enforce standards.

She caught the bus down to Adelaide.

Last minute shopping for methylated spirits at Bunnings (no gas bottles) and off up 20km gradual climb to the Tanami turn off. Road crew came in as we did andchanged the Tanami Riad sign from ‘Open’ to 4WD only’. Online NT gov site say ‘open to 2WD, recommend high clearance’ Onwards!

Into 40km of light headwinds. Camped on a firebreak.
