Day 8 Tanami Tootle to Kings Canyon and resort 50 km

This is it folks, nearly where the rubber leaves the road and hits dirt! Easy 36 km to Kings Canyon interrupted by meeting a (seeming) septuagenarian cyclist on the best set up Giant gravel bike who was riding the Mereenie Loop counter-clockwise. He skipped the gravel road bit due to the rain and cold.

On for a strenuous 3 hour Rim Walk around Kings Canyon. Interesting enough, more for the fact that the deep Canyon has kept a climate constant enough for 20 million years to preserve some of the vegetation of the time as the landscape around turned to desert. Insure your ankles and knees with Lloyd’s of London before trying the rim.

In at the Kings Canyon Resort for a last shower and cooked dinner before a week of roughing it outback. No phone for maybe a week either.

A shop up for food tomorrow then in to the dust.

Good fun so far, and a shout out to the Lejog riders who finished their big one yesterday.

Goodnight.
