DAY 34 Tanami Tootle Wolffe Creek Crater 50km

Sh*#

Started well for 5km, then road deteriorated to corrugations but no big deal. Two twenty something year old guys riding the other way (done Gibb, Duncan Highway into the wind to get from Broome to Derby to Halls creek and continuing down the Tanami to Finke River, Dalhousie Springs and eventually Melbourne) were at the Wolffe Creek Crater turnoff trying to tighten a crank arm back onto the Octalink axle. Good luck with that. Maybe the mechanic in Bililuna can help?

Good luck guys, especially the one with the crank arm falling off (Octalink). They are planning to ride to Alice Springs through the Tanami against the wind in 10days at 110km/day. Yeah guys.

Side road to Wolffe Creek Crater started mildly corrugated, got worse corrugations, then Sandy corrugations then just deep sand around Stuart Creek crossing. Nearly 3 hours to go 23km. Forgot to add the moderately 15-20km headwinds to Crater. Too tired to visit Crater so will do tomorrow.

Difficult sandy corrugations 70mm fat tyre mark vs 40mm thin
Old Caranya Homestead Sturt Creek near Wolfe Creek Crater
Wolfe Creek cooking dinner (had to carry wood in from outside NP for fire so kept it small)
Wolfe Creek NP camp (has a composting toilet but no water)
