Day 37 Tanami Tootle Halls Creek!!!!! End of the Tanami Road but the Tootle continues 56km

Made it to Halls Creek about 14:30. Last 18km into headwind but on the shoulder of Highway 1. Good road all day, first 14km on diversion road around new road then on 23km bitumen superhighway (gentle gradient, sweeping curves) to join Highway 1. A few photos of leaving the Tanami Road, two hours of pushing into headwind and we are in Halls Creek.

Very different to how I thought it was in 2002: caravan park closed as owner died, Kimberley Hotel now an aging resort behind 2m fence, fences everywhere and lots of apparently government buildings closed when the money ran out for whatever program was being run.

Locals friendly. One old aboriginal lady was walking slowly back to her house on the outskirts of Halls Creek was in a puffer jacket and complaining about the cold. It was mid-20s Celsius.

IGA well stocked. Resting here for two full days before rush to Broome.
