DAY 20 7 JULY LEICHHARDT’S FALLS TO THE BURKE DEVELOPMENT ROAD – BITUMEN

Waiting for the green light on a culve reconstruction 100km out of Normanton

!

Latish start after taking pictures around the falls. The a 30 km straight run in a gentle crosswind to the Donors Hill / Augustus Downs turnoff. We had a short stop at a turkey nest dam for a sticky beak and to gauge the water quality (good) before continuing on. Road was good packed black soil.

Christine found a tree on the banks of a dam and we plonked down there for an hour. I cooked 2 minute noodles to the amusement /horror of the others. The salt and the savouriness were great after so much bland pasta and porridge.

The noodles didn’t sustain me though and the last 12 km of the 39km to the bitumen had me prostrate on the ground cooling off and summoning my last energy several times.

At last i forced down a jam sandwich which got me the last 2 km onto the bitumen and 2km further acrpss a river to a tack crossing into the fenced cattle station.  Here we camped while the indefatigable Brian cooked another dinner.
