DAY 19 6 JULY TO LEICHHARDT’S FALLS

DAY 19 6 JULY TO LEICHHARDT’S FALLS

Leichhardt’s Falls – ‘should we throw a French tourist in to find out? No need. A 2m snapping handbag was stunning itself on a rock at the end of the lovely pool.

Out of bed feeling much refreshed then back on the frog and toad.

Thanked the workers for their assistance when I was at my limit and back into it.

Straight forward day with one or two deep Creek channels but all dry. Had some fun waiting at roadworks stoplights in the middle of nowhere.  Just decided to run the red when a roadworks crew came through!

I weakened during the day and finally ran completely out of energy after the last river crossing 2kms short of Leichhardt’s Falls.  After half an hour cooling down in the shade of the Burketown roadsign (while everyone else waited for me) got enough energy to ride through the last 2km to the falls. Not flowing.

There is a big flat area above the falls where everyone camps so picked a site and plonked.

Water was pretty clean and we were hot and very dirty.  Several groups of tourists were milling around “are there crocs?’ ‘i don’t know’.  Sighting a 3m snapping handbag sunning itself 40m from where we were collecting water for a quick wash answered that question.  No swimming.

Brian cooked another dinner to be proud of and then to bed listening to the French and German backpackers chatting each other up.
