DAY 18 5 JULY NORMANTON TO WORKERS CAMP

DAY 18 5 JULY NORMANTON TO WORKERS CAMP

Burke and Wills camp 119 – the most northerly of their ill-fated trip. Shame to get to the tidal flats but not see the sea

Got halfway to Leichhardt’s Falls before I blew out. Started getting the shivers which is too far beyond ‘bonking’ or ‘hittinh the wall ‘ for comfort.  We were eyeing off a gravel pad for the night when Bruce stopped a council worker retuning to camp 500m on the other side of the road,  explained that I was done in, and got approval to camp off the road beside them.  Magic

Had a wash and filled water bottles from their tanks. Thanks road workers.

Before that we pushed out of Normanton about 10am and rode the tailwind at nearly 20km an hour for 40kms to Burke and Wills camp 119, the most northerly camp of their trip. Nice explanation signs about what went on as B&W made the last dash to the gulf.

Lunch at Camp 119 then onto the dirt and some corrugations for another 40 km before calling it quits.
