DAY 39 26 JULY BUTTERFLY SPRINGS TO COX RIVER

DAY 39 26 JULY BUTTERFLY SPRINGS TO COX RIVER

Left the beautiful Butterfly Springs after filling water bottles from the small cascade flowing from cracks in the rocky tableland above – lovely clear clean cool water.

A few hours later in the bidons and large bottles the water was still clear and clean but way from cool.

A bit further up the road we went in to the national parks ranger’s station to top up (refill)  the water supplies from their clean bore. The lovely ranger Diana, goddess of the chase,  gave us lemons from an old tree in the compound yard and, when she heard of my lack of success fishing,  an old lure she had taken from my the mouth of a large grouper she had caught but felt sorry for and released.

Chris O’B getting water from the Limmen Bight River crossing (200m wide in the ‘wet’ season). Doesn’t look much but it is cool, wet, clean and twenty metres away probably full of unseen crocodiles! 7

The lunch stop was a quick wetting of the hat in the large, clean flowing Limmen Bight River.

After that it was just grinding away, getting weaker and hotter until putting up camp at the Cox River.
