A very welcome week of rest and eating while enjoying my the company of my brother Peter and sister in law Noni at ‘Drumlion’.
I arrived weighing 72 kg (159 pounds) and left five days later at 77 kg (170 pounds). Even allowing that some of that weight gain was rehydration, 5 kg of gain in five days is a testament to Noni’s cooking and the open coolroom fridge!
Occasionally I put my head up to have a look at the station and the cattle. Hard to believe but this grass had only appeared in the last couple of weeks when 200mm of rain gave welcome relief to the drought conditions of the previous 3 years.

The old family farm ‘Lucella’. You can see why I wanted to be a forester from a very early age.

Repairs to the fatigue fractured mudguard stay were a bit of a problem. The touring cyclist legend is that every farmer is a dab hand with a welder or oxy. The problem with that, as my brother and his trained mechanic offsider found, is that welding high grade stainless steel with a farm oxy/welder is not easy. But they got it done and hopefully bonded over the experience.
