Day 20 1 May Tjukayirla_Roadhouse towards Warburton 100 km

Reluctantly said goodbye to the bitumen road/air strip at Tjukayirla (the most isolated roadhouse in Australia) and back on to variously sandy/corrugated/good road.

Interest this time was the appearance of camel tracks and even the sighting of three live camels.

Many travellers including myself have commented on the lack of animal sightings in the desert. We put this down to the recent rain having given the animals the options of staying away from the noise and lights of the road.

The other notable point was the Terhan rockholes right next to the Great Central Road. These were  the largest rockholes seen so far. However, because they are next to the road they were muddy from road dust and because they had been covered by a grate to keep animals out, the water was polluted by birds perching on the grate and pooping in the water. While there is quite a bit of water in the rockhole (it opens out underground) it is so polluted that you would be desperate to drink it.
