Day 41 22 May Pedirka bore to near Tookaninna Waterhole

A relatively easy 6 km to Hamilton Station homestead on the Hamilton Creek. The ranger at Dalhousie Springs had declared the crossing of Hamilton Creek closed because he had got bogged there but I suspect that had more to do with him having 2 tonnes of fencing supplies on board than that the creek was uncrossable. I had no trouble, didn’t even have to dismount.

Hamilton homestead had a big ‘no entry’ sign so kept on going. Got some water from a stock tank and onwards. Unpleasant seeing the sign saying crests and dips for the next 20 km. After that it was collapse or have lunch in a gravel pit. A few more km of sand and rocks, not too bad, and then camp just past the Quinn Dam.

During the night there was lightning to the west, south and east. A light fall of rain wet the tent but nothing serious. I found out later that the rain had closed the Borefields Track up from Woomera and flooded out the Cordillo Downs road between Innamincka and Birdsville. I was very lucky.
