Day 58 8 June Arrabury Station sand to Arrabury Station gibbers 51 km

Riding into the sand flurries on the Arrabury Road. Road looks alright but drifts of loose sand mean frequent dismounts and pushing.

What a rough day!!

Basically the first four hours were straight into a 30-40 km/hr (estimate) headwind on a road that was mostly 50/50 drifting sand (get off and walk) or hard clayey-sand base. Very hard work so that for lunch I pulled off the road at the Arrabury Station creek and spent an hour regaining strength under a tree.

Immediately after lunch the road improved to a near perfect gravel road. This coincides with moving from the Bulloo Shire council area to the Barcoo Shire council area. Still so worn out by the previous five hours of riding into the wind I only made another 10 km before pulling up for the night. Almost bare gibber ridges and minor creeks so no real shelter for the tent which is why is blew down in the wind later that night.

Not a lot of shelter on the gibber plains! The water in the gravel borrow pit is excellent for drinking and only moderately muddy. Be careful of relying on these waters as they dry within a few days after rain
