Day 18 29 April to the White Cross 100 km

Camp behind the White Cross on the Petermann range
Camp at the Beegull gnamma holes behind the White Cross on the Pollard range (?)

More blandness on the GCR.

One horizontal dismount today because I didn’t watch the dust as I pulled in to the Surfers Paradise road side layby about midday (everybody sees it marked on the maps and goes to have a look but it is a joke site set up by some travellers years ago).

Also had a look for a set of waterholes near the road but didn’t see them as I didn’t walk far enough into the scrub to see them (the current road is cutting of the apex’s of the old track, each apex being at an aboriginal waterhole).

Finished the night camped behind the White Cross on the Pollard Range above Lake Throssel. The stoney jump up had many water filled gnamma holes (only a few metres across and half a metre deep but clean surface water in this desert is a transient treasure).

Went to sleep listening to a dingo howl his territory and get answered by a very distant other dingo.
