(+ 39 km, 342 m on way back including to Duncansby Head lighthouse)
Not happy or anything but…… we finished!
More later when the celebratory beer has sunk in. And we are back in internet range.
And we are back…….
The easy short day out to John O’Groats to finish LEJOG turned into another usual distance and climb. Our maths (33 km x 2 = ?) was not so good.
At least the hills were gentle if long. Big farms almost to John O’Groats, then a developing village of holiday homes and a few caravan parks at the tip. Staffing is a problem here (since BREXIT cut off the supply of willing labour?) so celebratory meal had to wait until we rode 650m mother pub back out after photos.
Big lash uplunch – the seared salmon all round, a hot chocolate for Christine, booze for the rest.
Then because the map showed that John O’Groats is actually not at the northern tip we rode out to the Dunansby lighthouse to make certain that we had finished.
John F arranged a moderate tailwind to blow us back to Thurso in time to grab dinner at The Station Hotel where the haddock was excellent and the host had spent time as an air traffic controller in Darwin during Cyclone Tracey.
Today we are taking the 90 minute ferry to Stromso on Orkney. Hope the Pentland Firth is calm.
