Day 2 Parry Creek Farm to Wyndham 53 km

After a beer and barramundi dinner at the camp restaurant and early night it was a moderately early morning start for the 26 kms in to Wyndham. Wyndham is definitely a small town but has its attractions. I was very surprized that the local small supermarket had a reasonable range of mobile phones. I bought one as my Sony had stopped working but as usual, once I had bought a new phone the old one started working again after a software reset (press power and volume-up buttons together).

  • ‘the biggest boab in captivity’ in the caravan park
  • a statue garden celebrating the mythical dreamtime creators of the local aboriginal peoples
  • a decent 4 km hill of 1:10 with bits of 1:7 to test the legs for the rigors ahead.

My porkiness didn’t survive the Gibb River Road. Even Christine and Linda ended the trip much more svelte than here on The Bastion (4 kms of 1:10 with stretches of 1:7 ) above Wyndham
Bruce told us he had seen a big crocodile!

There was a very large concrete crocodile outside the post office but big crocs are a dime a dozen up here.
