Day 1 Kununurra to Parry Creek Farm 87km

Day 1 (there was no Day 0!)

All the preparations were done, the bikes were loaded as we had breakfast and then we set off. No great drama, someone remembered that it was traditional to get a leaving photo so we did

Leaving Kununurra: Linda on her custom built titanium gravel grinder (first trip), Bruce on his steel Trek 520 and Christine on her old commuting bike, a CRX aluminium city bike (about 140,000kms on its belt). Stu on his steel touring bike very similar to Bruce’s Trek 520.

Rolling out of town over the vaguely famous Kununurra Diversion Dam that started the irrigated cropping industry here then on 12 kms to the turnoff from the bitumen Victoria Highway to the dirt Parry Creek Road. Not far down it Linda called for a photo stop to capture a boab in its natural location

Then it was on for the roughly 60 kms along the flat Parry Creek Road to the Parry Creek Farm campground to end the day. We all felt the enervating affects of the unaccustomed warmth and enjoyed our first bush lunch under the trees on the banks of the Ord River along the way.
