Day 17 2 August Downwind to Karratha

The Last 52 km into Karratha celebrated with a ripping 28 km/hr downwind run.

We joined the coastal coastal highway at the Karratha turn off exactly as the solo Sydney-Perth French female cyclist we had heard about a few days earlier crossed. A quick ‘How is it going?’ and a comment about how her favorite camp item was a 40mm thick Thermarest sleeping map she had found on the roadside then we parted to go to town and she headed south to Perth.

‘This is not a bin’ instructions on Spill Kit at a Karratha service station. Drivers in the mining centres were much better and more considerate of cyclists than in Perth. We put this down to poor driving being a sackable offence on a mining site.

Sadly we could not find a pie in the Karratha shopping centre.
That night we had a pitch in the Karratha Tourist Caravan Park about five kms out of Karratha on the Roebourne Road. Basic would be a charitable description.
